It is true I receive from the Foreign Office a pay nearly equivalent to that to which I draw from the balony. but

the two united do not

equal the pay of many Officers of this beatony below

me

in rank: whilst from the peculiar position the Auliter holds of financial Comptroller over all the Departments I am unable excefit under

enjoy

ON

very

rare circumstances to

the advantage of acting

extra pay for combination of offices.

His Excellency will I trust feel dispered

to recommend that

"pay should be considered as an extra Salary given for the performance of extra my remuneration from

duty

and that

the Colony should be such or nearly

usually given

given to Officers of

I explained to Sir F. Roqero January last when applying for extension

of

leave what

serious pecuniary inconvenience I should suffer by a return to the Colony

at that time as some

property to which I had become entitled was in course of settlement. but the bolonial Government

apparently required my services and notwithstanding that the storeign Office would willingly have kept

me at home

obliged

to leave

on full salary, I was and thus became involved in legal expenses and much loss. Taking this
